The fastest-growing technology in today’s renewable energy landscape isn’t on the land at all. Hydroelectric remains the giant in the field, but is showing by far the slowest growth. Solar, wind and geothermal are all growing at their typical rates, but ocean power is predicted to grow the fastest in the next 4-5 years.
BCC spoke with Erik Friis-Madsen, creator of Wave Dragon, the world’s first offshore wave energy conversion (WEC) platform. The device generates energy by exploiting the potential energy in the elevated water near the crest of waves. It serves as a commercial prototype that can propel the creation of more wave energy devices, sustainability jobs and research into ocean power.
